Tax Trainee– Private Client Tax (Basingstoke Office)

Role Overview

As Trainee in the Private Client Tax team, you will support the delivery of high quality self assessment compliance services for a wide range of private clients. You will assist with preparing personal tax returns, basic computations and supporting schedules under close guidance from senior team members. The role provides an excellent foundation for an ambitious individual seeking to develop their technical knowledge and progress through professional qualifications within a supportive, forward thinking firm. This role offers a clear pathway for professional development, including the opportunity to study for the ATT and CTA qualifications with full study support provided as you progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Compliance Support

  • Assist with preparing personal tax returns for a broad portfolio of private clients, including HNWIs, landlords and internationally mobile individuals.

  • Prepare basic CGT calculations, schedules, and supporting working papers.

  • Ensure internal processes are followed and assist with meeting filing deadlines.

  • Maintain high quality client service, responding to requests professionally and promptly.

Team Support & Development

  • Work closely with senior team members, supporting them with delegated tasks across compliance and workflow management.

  • Assist in organising workload and maintaining accurate records within the team.

  • Engage actively in training, study, and on the job development activities.

  • Contribute positively to team culture, demonstrating professionalism and willingness to learn.

Administrative & Technical Assistance

  • Gather client information, maintain accurate data, and ensure files are complete and up to date.

  • Support with basic research and preparation of simple technical notes where required.

  • Help draft emails, client communication summaries, and routine documentation.

Skills & Experience Required

Essential

  • Strong academic background (A-levels or degree) or progression through AAT/ATT study route.

  • Good numeracy skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Interest in developing technical expertise in UK private client tax.

  • Good communication skills and a client focused mindset.

  • Ability to work to deadlines and manage tasks with supervision.

Desirable

  • Prior experience in a finance, tax, or office environment.

  • Familiarity with residence, domicile, capital gains tax or inheritance tax concepts.

  • Interest in developing advisory skills as your role matures.
