In Focus: Imperium Community Sponsorships
Imperium supports a number of sporting teams and initiatives across the Channel Islands.
Imperium Group Managing Director David Gilmour said: “Guernsey has a community rooted in a diverse range of sports and talented individuals in their specialist disciplines. Many of these clubs and initiatives are at the grassroots level and rely on support to enable them to reach their potential.”
“Sport has so many benefits, and many of the core values echo ours at Imperium. We are proud to support a number of sporting initiatives across the Channel Islands, some of these involving our own team members or their families.”
In Guernsey, we support the Vale Rec U15s football team. Our support has enabled them to travel to Jersey to compete in the Dave Melton Memorial Trophy. They won the quarter-finals of the cup competition with an impressive 8-1 score before narrowly losing the semi-final 2-1. As a team, they are moving up their local league comfortably, winning their first two games. We’ll keep you posted on their progress!
In Jersey, our attention turns to the ring with our sponsorship of Assistant Manager James Fullerton that has enabled him to take part in the Transform Together White-Collar Boxing Challenge.
White Collar Boxing is a unique opportunity for people with no boxing background to experience the world of boxing in a safe, enjoyable environment. It has been proven to be amazing for mental health and for growing confidence in people, helping to push them out of their comfort zone.
James embarked on a 10-week training camp before taking to the ring, raising money through the initiative for the RNLI in Jersey.
“The experience has been an incredible physical and mental challenge. RNLI Jersey do an incredibly selfless job saving, preserving lives at sea in our local waters. Living on an island with us all enjoying time at sea, the RNLI is a charity that has benefitted us all and is an incredible service. Imperium has not only supported me in this challenge and my own personal development, but they have enabled hundreds of pounds to be raised for the RNLI locally.” James Fullerton said.
Back in Guernsey, Imperium have been sponsoring the aptly named Imperium Comets basketball team (pictured above) for the past two seasons. Senior Manager Nikki Colley (No.10) is part of the team that currently sits top of the local women’s league.
Nikki said: “Imperium’s sponsorship has enabled us to focus on our performance rather than the fundraising otherwise required to cover the costs of playing in the league. I love that basketball is a fast-paced game, and I love the camaraderie of being part of a competitive team. It is also a really good stress buster!”
Back on the pitch, we have just enjoyed the Imperium 7s annual minis football tournament. The event brings together all of the local club sides’ U-11 squads to compete in a day of hotly contested matches. Vale Rec triumphed this year in the final, winning in a tight penalty shootout.
