Parkinson’s Guernsey is the Winner at Imperium’s Padel Tournament

12 June 2023

Imperium held the 3rd annual charity Padel Tennis event last week in Guernsey; the event has continued to grow each year and raises much-needed donations for Parkinson’s Guernsey.

“The tournament was a tremendous success.” explained Euan Melrose from Imperium.

“Twenty teams took part and the standard of play was excellent. The event, which is held annually, is going from strength to strength with the number of those taking part increasing each year. It is very important to us that we take this opportunity to support the community and we are delighted to have chosen Parkinson’s Guernsey once again as the charity to benefit from the money raised during the evening which amounted to £1,500.”

“We are hugely grateful for a number of reasons.” said Jane Tullier, a Director of Parkinson’s Guernsey who presented the prizes.

“Imperium’s generosity and enthusiastic support is appreciated enormously. The funds will be put to good use expanding the range of activity sessions we can offer to people with Parkinson’s in Guernsey. We also welcome the opportunity given to us by Imperium and the Tennis Centre to increase public awareness of Parkinson’s in this way and to emphasise how essential exercise is. We know that the more physically active you are, the easier it is to live well with Parkinson’s.  Regular physical activity can have a positive impact on symptoms, both physically and mentally. It can be as important as medication.  It was great to see everyone enjoying the tournament and if you enjoy the physical activity you’re doing, the more likely you are to keep doing it. That’s one of the reasons we are introducing Padel into the sessions we offer.”

Andy Privett, who runs the Tennis Centre, said “It was a great event, and the Centre is proud to be the venue for it. Padel is an excellent and fast growing sport helped enormously by sponsors such as Imperium. It’s also very rewarding for us to be able to help people with Parkinson’s by supporting the introduction of dedicated Padel sessions.”
