Imperium Jersey Row the distance from Sark to Jersey

25 April 2024

The Imperium Jersey team took teamwork to its limit earlier this month to compete in the Jersey Rowathon in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Imperium Jersey team, in a remarkable display of endurance, rowed a staggering 30,000 metres. To put this into perspective, it’s the equivalent of rowing from Sark to Jersey, one of the longest established annual rowing races and a distance that is not to be underestimated.

The annual event saw teams continually row for 2 hours. The Imperium team of Simon Young, Chris Ash, Fin Lowes, Michael Whitehead, Luke Cassin and William Young took turns rowing 1km at a time before changing over, staying together, and encouraging each other.

Imperium’s efforts were not in vain, as they managed to raise over £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. These funds will go towards providing crucial emotional, practical, and well-being support to those affected by cancer in Jersey.

Simon Young, Managing Director Imperium Jersey, said: It is no secret I am a big rowing fan. However, my preference is usually on water! Taking part in the Rowathon was a natural decision; it combined rowing with raising money for charity and working as a team to push us to achieve our distance.”

“I’m proud of our team’s contribution, and I know Macmillan appreciates the funds that make such a difference for those with cancer and their families. I look forward to improving our time next year.”
